How does an evaporative air cooler work? A pump circulates water from the reservoir into a cooling pad, which becomes very wet. A fan or blower draws warm air through the wet pad, and as it passes through the pad it gets cooled by evaporation. As this form of cooling adds humidity to the air it is necessary to provide some cross ventilation, an open door or window will help to improve the cooling effect and will limit humidity build up in the room.
